SARAKICHI Komon Chief & Komon Tie (Fine-patterned pocketchief & tie)

The fine detailed designs that adorn these neckties and handkerchiefs are called komon-gara. These designs are created with a dyeing method called katazome, which has a long 400-year history, proudly passed down through the ages in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district. The key feature of this method is the use of patterns made of layered handmade paper that’s been engraved with komon-gara designs. Tomita Senkogei Co., Ltd., which has been in business for over 140 years, has an archive of over 120,000 pattern pieces, with some still being used for dyeing today. With all of the processes, from color creation and starch making to dyeing, being done by hand, these are high-quality, environmentally friendly products. The items created in collaboration with designer Yuko Minamide embody SARAKICHI, a brand creating
new traditions rooted in the nostalgic style of the Edo period.
